Members, as those of you who attended meeting three would know, I was lucky enough to receive a bottle of
Laphroaig 15yo for Christmas. It was a gift from my brother. Those who are keen to obtain their own bottle can purchase one from your local
Dan Murphy's for A$149. If you are interested, it might be worth doing, since
Laphroaig has announced that it no longer intends to produce a 15yo, but is instead moving to 18yo in future. As my regular readers would know, I am partial to the peaty flavours of
Islay and a big fan of the
Laphroaig distillery. I have previously written on the
Quarter Cask and the
10yo. Rest assured, the 15yo did not disappoint.
Nose: There was an obvious hint of sweet vanilla in this dram.
Colour: Deep and rich amber.
Taste: There is an immediate taste of saltiness in the whisky that is apparent from the first drop. The dram is smooth and there is no wince at all. There is a hint of smoke, but it is not overpowering. After the addition of some water this flavour is more obvious. Following the addition of water, more flavours were apparent to the nose, and the tastebuds. Personally, I thought that water made the flavour better and I would recommend that the whisky be consumed this way.
I award the
Laphroaig 15yo 6 out of 7 lightning bolts.
